I. About the Artist/Illustration
Janet is a junior at CSULB majoring in Animation/Illustration with a minor in web development. She loved drawing comics as a kid. In high school she found another hobby in web development. Her interest started in drawing animals as a kid with story telling at a very young age. She has been following her childhood dream of becoming an artist. She enjoys animation with After effects. The fact that she loves story telling reminds me of times as a kid listening to ghost stories at the campfire.
II. Formal Analysis
The artwork was a small comic book with lines and shapes of animals. No real rhythm to the artwork since it wasn’t really an abstract piece. The cover was very colorful but inside the book it was gray scale sketched. I would say there is a lot of texture to the cover and cadence. The book was laminated so I was able to pick it up and look at it up close. I did not get any visceral gut reaction due to its scale since it was small in size.
III. Content Analysis
The comic book story was based on a main character Ringal who’s is a trouble maker necromancer. She made this drawing when she was in 7th grade, it had a different name at the time and a different plot. The necromancer’s spell it make a person goes wrong! As Janet got older her personality changed and aligned with Ringal who matured and became tame just like her.
IV. Synthesis/ My Experience
I can attest to my childhood, I loved video games and have always dreamed about coding my own video game. However, as i grew older I started to be less interested in this field of work and more interested in mobile applications. Just like the content of Janet’s artwork, people change with age and its not necessarily bad to change. Honestly, I feel like change is good and keeps life interesting. Always learning and adapting to the current time in our lives.
